A blighted corner at 16th & Marquette is being transformed into a vibrant art park, thanks to over $12K raised through crowdfunding and matching funds, bringing neighborhood cleanup and creativity to life.
In the summer of 2019, NW Goldberg Cares successfully raised more than $7,500 in community donations—matched by a $5,100 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)—to build the neighborhood’s first Art Park at 16th & Marquette. The 6102 Art Park project turned a neglected, weed-filled lot into a purpose-built green space, complete with wood fencing, landscaping, benches, pathways, and a locally commissioned sculpture.
Designed as a welcoming, intentionally crafted place, the park hosts community voices through spoken-word nights, clean-ups, picnics, and family gatherings. It’s also an expression of Detroit’s artistic legacy, with founder Daniel Washington noting that the site’s proximity to Motown Museum underlines its musical and cultural importance.
